A project I did for Texturing and Shading 2 (Instructed by Robby Branham) and Hard Surface Modeling 1 (Instructed by David Mooy) at Gnomon School. This was my first time with Substance Painter and It was a pretty fun experience!
Software used: Maya, Substance Painter, V-Ray, and Photoshop.
Modeling Progress
At the time, the model blocking was a pretty straight forward process for me as I found a lot of real product images and videos. After the shape and portion was approved. I started modeling the front and back parts and then moved on to the top part. Everything was going well until I started working on the inside of the center part. I was trying to model all the details or functions out as much as possible but I didn’t have a real-word model to refer to. I could only pieced the mechanic system out by watching videos and guessing what make sense for this foldable camera.
LookDev Progress 01
Substance Painter is a layer based as Photoshop, learning and getting familiar with tis tool was easier to pick up than I expected. In the first week we had to set up initial textures for overall look.
LookDev Progress 02
Then I started working on some smaller regions for adding more details like green molds, scratches, marks, and carved numbers.
LookDev Progress 03
Adding another layers on the leather, mimicking dusty from the references.
LookDev Progress 04
Final touches by adding more rusty and worn details on the edges.
