The Beginning of the End

Role: FX Artist/ Generalist

Date: 2018

Responsible for all aspects, except for the interior model and texture by my friend Mido Lai.
Inspired by a shot from the movie Stalingrad by Main Road|Post. (Vfx Breakdown 02:49)

A project I did for Dynamic Effects 3 (Instructed by J. Andres Berkstein) at Gnomon School. The goal for this class is to learn how to utilize FractureFX and PhoenixFD to create a demolition shot from references. With many researches, I ended up with this one long take shot from Stalingrad. I like how the shot was constructed by two section, one is a smaller scale glass window fracture, and the other one is main explosion at the end. During the production, I’d say it was easy to pick up FractureFX and PhoenixFD, nothing too crazy. Surprisingly, the most challenging part was actually re-time all the fragments and explosion. It took me a lot time to harmonize all the fragments with the explosion timing in slow-motion. Thanks to my instructor Andres for the help and advice, guiding us throughout the process.

Software used: Maya, Fracture FX, Phoenix FD, Substance Painter, Speedtree, V-Ray, Nuke, and After Effects.
